Row over heifer turns brothers against brothers - Courts, National News - Independent.ie

Row over heifer turns brothers against brothers - Courts, National News - Independent.ie: "Sunday October 25 2009
THE boy standing in the way of the gate was only 12 or 13, but what he said, and the way he smiled when he said it, was enough to put the fear into John Dempsey.
'How'ya John? Who gave you permission to be in there?'
It was a reasonable inquiry for young Conor Byrne to make given the fact that Mr Dempsey was on his father, DJ's, land.
Standing 6ft 3in in height and many years the boy's senior, John Dempsey really shouldn't have been afraid, but the fear was in him, he said, as he thought of who might be waiting for him beyond the high wall out in Hammer Lane.
He had gone on to Daniel Joseph and Jason Byrne's land to retrieve his heifer after it strayed from his herd. But the heifer wasn't of a mind to follow him despite his best efforts."

The Dublin City Ramblers Irelands best ballad and folk group.

The Dublin City Ramblers Irelands best ballad and folk group.: "It all began way back in 1963. Sean Mcguinness, born in James's St., Dublin and living most of his life in Inchicore in Dublin, coming from a very traditional Irish background, (His mother won the highest awards in piano playing at the London College of Music, and his father was All-Ireland Champion Dancer 3 years in a row), got his first Tenor Banjo , and together with his brother Matt and close friend and neighbour Pat Cummins, formed a Ballad Group called 'The Jolly Tinkers'.
They played their first gig ever in a pub called The Kingsway Lounge in Dublin's Capel St. for a few pints. Sean played Tenor Banjo & Mandolin, Matt played Tin Whistle & Fiddle, and Pat played Guitar and most of the singing, possessing a very powerful & unique voice. Their first paying gig was sometime later in a Hotel called The Parkside Hotel on the Nth. Circular Road, Dublin. They received the princely sum of a half-crown each.(Approx 15 cents in todays money!!!), for their night's work. It was all uphill from there on. The recruited a fourth member at a later stage (We needed somebody with transport, said Pat), and carried on until they changed the name of the group to the 'Quare Fellas', after Brendan Behan's play. (This was suggested by their good friend at the time, Irish comedian ,Noel V. Ginnity)."

Ireland are tantalizingly close
to Slam after win vs. England
By Mark Jonesletters@irishecho.com
March 4, 2009 You still have to scratch your head and wonder how on earth there was just one point between the teams at the end of last weekend's Six Nations hostilities. Ireland had possession, territory and control of the game for long periods, yet it was fortunate that England's converted try came when it did in the dying seconds because, a couple of minutes earlier, and who knows what might have happened.
