Finbar Furey of The Furey’s band will open the 24th Annual Irish Festival season with a concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th at the Dulles State Office Building in Watertown. Finbar, sometimes called the “Tony Bennett” of Irish Music, was born in Dublin, Ireland and is seen as a true icon of Irish Culture.
The Furey’s began their career playing many shows with the late great Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners. As their reputation spread wider, they consolidated their success in Europe, Canada and the USA bringing Finbar’s rare talents to a world-wide stage and treating audiences to evenings of pure Irish magic, great music, good humor and the charm and sparkling wit associated with one of Ireland’s great balladeers.
The Furey’s smash hits include: “When You Were Sweet Sixteen”, “I Will Love You Every Time”, “When We Are One”, “Leaving Nancy”, “Tara Hill”, “Green Fields of France”, “Red Rose Café” and the show stopping hit “The Lonesome Boatman.”
Finbar’s recent foray into the big screen has also been a huge success. Mr. Furey was highlighted in the 2002 Blockbuster hit “Gangs of New York” along with Liam Neeson, Daniel-Day Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio and Finbar’s 2007 hit “Strength and Honour” achieved critical acclaim.
The show starts at 7 p.m. with General Admission Tickets priced at only $10. For Ticket Information please contact the Disabled Persons Action Organization (DPAO) at 315-782-0044 or 1-800-533-2859. The goal of the Irish Festival is to raise money to bring children from Northern Ireland to Northern New York for four weeks each summer. The Irish Festival also supports Project Children in their efforts to support the children of Northern Ireland.
