The North Country Will Go Green!!!!

To list all Irish Americans that have made public service their passion would take a lifetime. There are a few in recent history that truly stand out. Most notably would be former Mayors of Watertown, Joe Butler and Karl Burns these are two men, one living and one since passed, that understood the meaning of community. You’d also be remiss if you didn’t mention Alex Duffy in that same breath. All you need to is look at the many beautiful buildings that adorn our neighborhoods and Alex Duffy’s craftsmanship can be seen in many. These great man and so many countless Irish Americans understood that in order to have a healthy North Country community you need to be actively involved in a community.

In saying that, we at the festival take great pleasure in announcing that the Clock Tower at the 1st Baptist Church in Public Square will be illuminated Green in lead up to St. Patrick’s Day.

We light this clock tower in the name of those who have sacrificed for this great country. We hope that this light will also act as a call to public serve and community involvement. Ours is a wonderful place to call home and this St Patrick’s Day we ask you to remember those who have sacrificed to make this great Country the special place it is. God bless and thank you for your support in making this historic event a reality.

  1. April is Autism Awareness month. On April 1 & 2 is "Light It Up Blue" for Autism. Would you consider lighting the tower blue for those days? I live in S.C., my husband is from Watertown. My grandson has Autism & I'm asking for him and all other children who suffer each day with this. Thanks.

  3. I agree! I am not Irish and I don't believe that the Baptist church (where the clock is home) does not recognize "Saint Patrick" as nothing more than a mere man.

Let the Catholic churches paint their buildings green or what ever they want but don't FORCE anything on anyone!

I agreen with Pam...LIGHT IT BLUE!!

  4. Thank you for your touching dedication and for mentioning my grandfather, Alex Duffy, with such warm regard. It truly gives me pause that even thirteen years after his death, he is still remembered in our hometown with affection and pride. An ordinary man of ordinary means, he let his "love for this old town," as he would say, guide him in whatever small contributions he could make, and it created a legacy. What an amazing example of what one person can do! And what a special place Watertown still is to celebrate him even now. Thanks again!
